SMALL GROUP MINISTRY

LIKE THE APOSTLES

Christ built his church on small group ministry by forming his beloved Apostles so close to his heart.

A small group may take one of many forms: a Bible study, women’s or men’s ministry, leading fallen-away Catholics back to the faith, or even something in your area of professional expertise as a way to bring others together in Christ’s presence.

Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton has numerous small groups available (see subsequent page) for the many ways God calls us to grow closer to him, and new groups form all the time as our faithful parishioners answer his call to lead. If you feel drawn to a specific type of small group, either as a participant or a leader, ask our clergy or pastoral staff for guidance to help you find your place in our parish.

THE MISSION

Small groups allow individuals to explore God’s will within a more intimate community setting, and can help us build meaningful connections and kinship. Walking together in “apostolic friendship” instills a confidence as we get to know others on the journey. These bonds prepare us to take next steps in our faith - it’s essential for us to know we’re never in this alone, as Jesus tells us, “For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.” - Matthew 18:20

“Small groups create a place where someone who would never go to church can encounter that love (of the Father)...groups serve the church and the world when they truly encounter Christ together.”

- Evangelical Catholic

HOW SMALL GROUP MINISTRY WORKS:

MEET WITH CLERGY OR PASTORAL STAFF

Discuss your calling to join or launch a small group and see what our parish has to offer.

IF JOINING A SMALL GROUP

With guidance from clergy or pastoral staff, prayerfully discover a group that best fits where you’re being called to find community. Contact the group leader to see if you can join right away or if you need to wait for a new session to begin.

IF STARTING A SMALL GROUP

You will need to have Pastoral approval and support from the staff to make a plan for your group. Scheduling and location will need to be determined as well as a communication plan to put out the word and find participants. We can assist you in gathering quality resources and materials.

ONE-ON-ONE CHECK-INS

Having regular one-on-one meetings with someone who can walk with you as you live out your small group calling will help you to stay on track. Check-ins will serve to feed and inspire your own faith when your energy is channeled into serving others.

TESTIMONIAL

CAMILLE RZESZUT

“The abundance of gifts found in a small group, whether you are teaching or a participant, is endless. I have found small groups as a chance to be part of a vibrant community, dedicated to growing in faith and friendship.

Small groups provide a warm, supportive space where you can explore meaningful topics, share experiences, and connect with others on their faith journeys.

Whether you are looking to deepen your understanding of your faith or simply wish to find a community walking, growing, and uplifting each other on your own unique paths, being in a small group helps you cultivate genuine connections with others. It fosters a strong sense of community: together, you will encourage one another, celebrate milestones, and build lasting friendships that enrich your spiritual life.

Jesus used the small group environment with his beloved disciples because he wanted up-close and personal interaction with them, and quality time to teach them. He used the small group as a place to shape the character of his disciples. Small groups take us back to the days in the Upper Room with the intimacy that was intended for growing and thriving in our Faith. Living life in the context of close relationships provides the opportunity for the Holy Spirit to change us and help us become more like Christ. To all become Fishers of Men!”
